Description

Ipratropium for oral inhalation is a synthetic anticholinergic compound, that is chemically related to atropine. It seems to antagonize the action of acetylcholine. Bronchodilation following inhalation is a local, site-specific effect. (Facts and Comparisons 1999)

Herbal Considerations

Based on their known effects it is possible that some of the following herbs may present an increased risk of interaction with this class of drugs. While specific data relating to such interactions is not available, at this time, it would be advisable to avoid combinations of this class of drugs with the herbs listed below:
Herbs with anticholinergic properties like belladonna, and henbane leaf (Blumenthal 1998), may increase side effects.
