Editor's Note

At last! How exciting! After almost two years, it is finally here...

In the September 1999 issue of this newsletter, the President of Applied Health Solutions, Bill Evans, submitted an article about blue-green algae, specifically AFA (Aphanizomenon Flos-Aquae) algae, from Klamath Lake, Oregon: the foremost Super Food - complete nutrition at its finest. We had hoped to provide the product for our customers rather quickly, but the effort to find excellence took research, review, and time.

Finally, we obtained the quality product we wanted. We are pleased to be able to announce the availability of this premier product, Foundation AFA Blue-Green Algae, from Klamath Lake, Oregon. This product combines the highest quality blue-green algae with our unique Advanced Enzyme Technology (A.E.T.) to encourage complete absorption of all available nutrients. The 'best' is always worth waiting for...

This month's articles will provide information about the supreme benefits of blue-green algae. In the September 1999 newsletter, I explained how blue-green algae had totally eliminated all of my allergy symptoms. I had been plagued with severe allergies, since I was six, and was usually taking three allergy shots every one or two weeks to control the symptoms. Finally, after more than 35 years, I was able to completely stop the shots and lead a normal life, without allergy misery - thanks to blue-green algae.

Always during the holiday season, flu's and colds increase due to exposure, stress, lack of sleep, and higher intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates. Foundation Blue-Green Algae dramatically improves the entire immune system. During flu season it is especially important to have a supply in the home.

We, at Applied Health Solutions, would like to wish all of our customers and subscribers a healthy and happy Holiday Season.

For your best health. . . .

Algae: It's "What's For Dinner!?...

Blue-Green Algae, that is! Not the algae that grows in the swimming pools and showers, but a nutritional form of algae. Blue-green algae is the world's most ancient food and first protein. At the bottom of the food chain, ounce for ounce, it is the most nutrient-rich food found in nature.

This whole food is so nutritionally complete that it can conquer allergies, strengthen the immune system, increase stamina, and dramatically improve our physical and mental state. Some scientists believe that blue-green algae has reached such a biological peak of perfection, it is no longer evolving.

In cultures all over the world, blue-green algae has been an important and vital nutritional source. Ancient civilizations such as Aztecs and Incas have used wild, fresh-water algae for food and trading - eating it raw, or dehydrating it for food storage. For those cultures where it is plentiful, signs of malnutrition do not exist. The West has only recently begun to "rediscover" the vast benefits of blue-green algae.

In Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon, a specific kind of blue-green algae grows wild and hardy enough to survive the cold Oregon winters. Klamath Lake, known for being one of the world's most pristine lakes, is rich with minerals from the volcanic soil. Mixed with the intense sunshine (more than 300 days a year) and clean air, growth is encouraged for the highest quality blue-green algae known - Aphanizomenon Flos-Aquae, or AFA. This term translated from Greek literally means "invisible living flower of the water". In this article, we will be speaking specifically of AFA blue-green algae.

Gram for gram, AFA blue-green algae is the most nutritionally dense, micronutrient food available. The small molecular structure of the algae allows the nutrients to be more easily assimilated than any other food. With properties of both the plant and bacteria kingdom, it contains amino acids, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, enzymes, and other essential nutrients.

Paul Swanson, M.D., a Biochemist from Harvard says: "One of the greatest changes in the conditions in which humans live has been in what we eat. Humans no longer eat much raw, wild food. The native blue-green algae growing wild and abundantly in Oregon's Upper Klamath Lake, one of the world's most volcanic mineral-rich and unpolluted lakes, provides an opportunity for humans to have something closer to an ancient health."

The AFA blue-green algae cell is one hundred times smaller than cells of the animal or plant classifications. It is made of simple, short-chain, low molecular-weight proteins that are easily absorbed into the body. The micronutrients are beyond comparison. The smaller size of the cell makes this food more easily assimilated than any other.

"AFA has an advantage in being hundreds of times lighter than the cells of plant and animal food. Its high surface area allows for cell membrane material to accumulate nutrients and eliminate waste, and even use the chlorophyll embedded within the cell membranes to receive more energy from the sun. This makes AFA among the most self-sufficient organisms on Earth with an unusually high concentration of valuable nutrients. Having such a rich cell membrane is why AFA has such a high amount of chlorophyll, protein, and essential fatty acids." (Karl J. Abrams, "Algae to the Rescue")

Blue-green algae contains two to three percent chlorophyll, which is among the highest concentration in any living organism. Interestingly enough, chlorophyll and hemoglobin are remarkably similar in their molecular structure, though their functions are different. Chlorophyll is the substance that makes a plant green and helps derive food for the plant by using the sun's energy. Hemoglobin gives blood its red color and transports oxygen through the blood. Both molecules are of the same shape, with a difference in the middle atoms. Hemoglobin's center atom is "iron", while chlorophyll's center atom is "magnesium". Maybe this very similar molecular structure is why ingesting chlorophyll so effectively helps boost the hemoglobin levels, increase the oxygen and iron, and purify the blood.

AFA blue-green algae contains 60% high quality protein, with all of the essential, and most of the non-essential amino acids. With this spectrum of amino acids, its protein is easier to assimilate, and of a higher quality, than animal proteins. This superior protein can actually cut the cravings for animal meats and simple carbohydrates. In general - curb the appetite.

There is a dramatic correlation between consumption of this nutrient-rich food and increased health. AFA blue-green algae is complete nutrition in its most basic form.
