Frequently Asked Questions About PowerZyme Prime
“Enzymes are substances that make life possible. They are the spark
of life. No mineral, vitamin, or hormone can do any work without
enzymes. They are the manual workers that build the body from proteins,
carbohydrates, and fats.” Edward Howell M.D., Pioneer of Enzyme Therapy.

1. What are Enzymes?
Enzymes are fundamental to all life. They are substances that make life
possible – the true “life-force” of every living thing. Without
enzymes, biological activity would not occur, because they are needed
for any chemical reaction in the body.
There are literally thousands of enzymes active in human
metabolism. They move muscles, stimulate nerves, make the heart beat,
control breathing, and allow thought processes. Enzymes are so critical
for metabolic functions that a lack of enzymes can affect health.

2. What are Digestive Enzymes?
No matter what specific foods we eat; our diets
are composed of protein, fat, carbohydrates, sugar, and fiber.
Digestive enzymes break down protein, carbohydrates, and fats into
progressively smaller components. Naturally-occurring digestive enzymes
are found in raw foods, such as fruits and vegetables.
These enzymes increase the level of digestion in the stomach,
increasing the amount of food broken down. Less undigested food is
passed into the colon, and food nutrients are more available for
absorption.

3. Does the human body make Digestive Enzymes?
The human body makes approximately twenty-two different digestive
enzymes. The digestion of food takes place in stages: beginning in the
mouth, moving to the stomach, and finally through the small intestine.
At each step, specific enzymes break down different types of food.
Food enters the upper portion of the small intestine where the
pancreas provides pancreatic enzymes to further break down the food.
Final breakdown of remaining small molecules of food occurs in the
lower small intestine. Through the whole process, enzymes are critical
for proper and complete digestion to occur.

4. Why take Enzyme supplements?
The modern diet consists of predominantly enzyme-deficient foods. This
is because heating any food over approximately 115 degrees destroys the
digestive enzymes, which naturally occur in raw food.
With diets of cooked and heavily processed foods, the body is
forced to place heavy demand on the pancreas for production of
digestive enzymes. Indigestion and bloating are often the result, when
there are not enough digestive enzymes to properly digest the meal.
Metabolic enzymes are also taxed, which is frequently evident when a
large meal is consumed and then sleepiness occurs.
In the absence of raw food enzymes or digestive enzyme supplements,
the bulk of digestion occurs in the small intestine. The amount of
undigested food entering the colon is increased. Incomplete digestion
of food gives colon bacteria the opportunity to feed, producing gas and
toxins that can leave people feeling uncomfortable, or even sick.
Both supplemental enzymes and naturally-occurring raw food enzymes
begin the process of digestion earlier in the digestive tract, thus
allowing for more complete digestion before the food reaches the colon.
When raw food enzymes are destroyed due to the cooking and
processing of foods, supplemental digestive enzymes become necessary.
This relieves the extra burden on the pancreas, allowing it to conserve
more of the digestive enzymes it produces, resulting in less metabolic
stress, less chance of disease, and overall - slows the aging process!

5. What benefits can be expected?
Those who take PowerZyme Prime should see
improvement in the absorption and utilization of nutrients. Benefits
will vary depending upon the diet of each individual and general
health. The typical result is that most people will feel less of a
“bloated” feeling after meals, and experience increased energy levels.
Decreased gas and more regular bowel movements may occur.

6. Do Enzymes survive in the stomach?
The belief that stomach pH eliminates the benefits of
supplemental enzymes is false. Research indicates that even though the
pH of digestive secretions is quite low (pH 1.0 – 1.5), that once mixed
with the food, the environmental pH ranges from 2.5 to 5.0 dependent
upon the foods consumed. With this food buffering system, the
environment does not harm the supplemental enzymes. In fact, many
enzymes function best under these conditions.

7. Are Enzyme supplements new?
No. Enzymes have a rich history that stretches back into antiquity as
substances capable of improving the quality of food. Mankind discovered
long ago that enzyme-rich fermented foods are more flavorful, more
easily digested, and last longer than unmodified foods. Central
American natives discovered that the addition of green papaya fruit to
their meat stews resulted in a more tender dinner than the use of ripe
fruit. People of the Orient realized that fermentation of soybeans
improved digestibility, flavor and texture.

8. What is the recommended dose for PowerZyme Prime?
Take two (2) capsules prior to a meal. For large meals, or
if there is a high fat content (double-burgers and fries), three capsules
may be needed.
PowerZyme Prime Digestive Enzymes digest food very quickly allowing
faster passage into the intestine, thus reducing acid production, which
is triggered by the presence of food in the stomach.
These enzymes are very stable, and retain activity in the
intestinal tract. This means that more food has been broken down and
absorbed by the intestinal tract. Because of this, gastric distress may
be reduced, and energy levels/alertness may also increase.
