Description:
This drug mimics the effects of prostaglandin E1. It inhibits gastric acid secretion and protects the gastric mucosa by increasing mucous and bicarbonate production. It is used primarily to protect the gastric mucosa from the side effects associated with NSAID use. (Facts and Comparisons 1999)
Nutritional Considerations:
