Adenine

Adenine is an alkaloid found in all living organisms. Adenine, when joined with a simple carbohydrate and a phosphate group, forms one unit of the genetic code (a nucleic acid). This nucleic acid, with varying numbers of phosphate groups, has many other uses in the body, including carrying energy.
