Wheal

Wheal

A wheal is a smooth, slightly round elevation of the skin, white in the center with a pale red periphery, normally accompanied by itching. It is usually evanescent, changing its size or shape, or disappearing within a few hours. It is the typical lesion of urticaria, the dormal evidence of allergy, and in sensitive persons may be provoked by mechanical irritation of the skin.
