Inflammation causes greater fatigue
Tired of aches and pains? There may be a physiological reason that is all in your head. Chronic inflammation can cause fatigue, because inflamed white blood cells from the area of inflammation can infiltrate the brain.
A study published in the Journal of Neuroscience found that liver inflammation in mice had a negative effect on their behavior. Inflamed liver monocytes (white blood cells) would move to the brain causing an infiltration in the brain. This led to more exhaustion and ill behaviors in the mice with inflamed livers.
D’Mello C, Le T, Swain MG. Cerebral microglia recruit monocytes into the brain in response to tumor necrosis factor signaling during peripheral organ inflammation. Journal of Neuroscience. 2009 Feb; 29(7): 2089-2102
