Nutra Eye
One-fourth of the United States population reports vision problems before the age of sixty-five. Nutra Eye contains antioxidants and nutrients that ensure eye health by quenching free radical damage caused by sun exposure and pollution. Research has shown that when certain nutrients, found naturally in the eye, are replaced; visual integrity and health are enhanced. Nutra Eye contains N-Acetyl-Cysteine and Alpha Lipoic Acid, which boost the body's glutathione levels and detoxify the aqueous fluid in the inner eye; L-Taurine, which helps boost retinal health and maintain proper nerve function; Astaxanthin, which can easily penetrate the blood brain barrier where it works its antioxidant magic on the eye; the carotenoids Lutein and Lycopene, which both exert positive antioxidant activity on the macula, retina, and lens; and Bilberry Extract, which is popularly used to correct vision disorders associated with retinal degeneration.
Is your supplement 20/20? If not, maybe it should be. Everyone is aware that aging takes its toll on many aspects of the human body, and the eyes are no exception. The majority of the elderly suffer from some visual impairment and research is showing that certain nutrients can nourish ailing eyes back to health. Medquest Pharmacy has developed Nutra Eye, an excellent antioxidant blend that contains ingredients that can boost the state of your eyes' health.
Deficiency Symptoms:
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. It is estimated that 25 percent of the population over 65 has clinical evidence of this disease, with the risk escalating with each passing year. Certain carotenoids, like lutein and astaxanthin found in the Eye Formula, play a large role in protecting the eye, specifically the retina, from the free radical damage that ultimately causes AMD. A Harvard study featured in JAMA showed that people who consumed lutein-rich foods five days a week were eight times less likely to develop age-related macular degeneration compared to those consuming these foods once per month. Although light makes vision possible, its energetic photons can also create dangerous reactive-oxygen species (ROS), which can cause damage to the photoreceptor cells and lipid peroxidation in the polyunsaturated fatty acids in the macula's photoreceptive membranes.
Functions in the Body:Toxicity / Contraindications:
- N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) and Alpha Lipoic Acid: Both NAC and alpha lipoic acid help synthesize glutathione, the body's natural antioxidant stronghold. Glutathione has been shown to detoxify the aqueous fluid of the inner eye. It also aids in maintaining adequate fluid outflow among glaucoma patients. It is found in high concentrations in the lens and is necessary to maintain its transparency, however, as we get older, glutathione levels decline in the eye and this decline seems to precipitate cataract formation.
- L-Taurine: This amino acid helps boost retina health and maintain proper nerve function. Although the exact mechanism of how taurine affects eye health in unknown, findings have pinpointed that taurine release and uptake has been found to employ distinct regulatory mechanisms in the retina and with taurine depletion, there is a significant occurrence of retinal lesions.
- Astaxanthin: Of all the carotenoids, astaxanthin appears to easily penetrate the central nervous system, making it an excellent candidate for eye health.
- Lutein:This eye-opening carotenoid prevents free radical damage in the macula and retina--both lutein-rich and highly oxidant-sensitive areas susceptible to AMD and cataracts.
- Lycopene: This multipurpose antioxidant, not only takes care of the prostate and breast, it also takes care of your peepers. A study in the British Journal of Nutrition showed that lycopene has a positive effect on the antioxidant status in human lens epithelial cells.
- Bilberry Extract: The phytochemicals in bilberries, called anthocyanins, have become popularly used to correct vision disorders associated with retina degeneration, like macular degeneration, retinitis, pigmentosa, poor night vision, and diabetic retinopathy.
The maximum safe dosages of the supplements in this formula have not been determined for children, pregnant or nursing women, or those with severe liver or kidney disease. As with all supplement regimens, please consult your physician prior to use.
