Diabetes
Turmeric may reduce the high blood sugar and oxidative stress encountered in diabetes, according to this study conducted on alloxan-induced diabetic rats. When either turmeric or curcumin (the active ingredient of turmeric) were fed to the diabetic rats, their blood sugar, Hb, and glycosylated hemoglobin levels were significantly lowered. Oxidative stress was also reduced by the treatment, which was evident by the rats' reduced levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Overall, curcumin was more effective in ameliorating the effects of diabetes mellitus than turmeric.
