CLARY SAGE (Salvia Sclarea)
Family: Labiatae (Mint)
Source: The Essential oil is derived from the leaves.
Fragrance: Camphor-like, woody.
Volatility: Top note.
General description and habitat:
A species of hardy, evergreen shrub, native to southern Europe. Clary Sage leaves are larger than sage and its flowers are blue-white.
Clary Sage is also larger, about chest height (90 cms/ 36 inches).
Principal constituents: Borneol, camphor, cineole, pinene, salve.
History
History and folk use:
Clary means clear (from the Latin clears) as it was once used to clear eye infections. Biologists in the 1930s recommended sage for women’s problems. Clary-sage is regarded as a cure-all.

Contraindications
Clary-sage can be used for self-treatment as it is less toxic than Sage.
Some authorities believe that it hsould be avoided during pregnancy.
