Volatility: Top note.
Fragrance:: Fresh, sweet, tangy.
General description and habitat:
Height up to 16 feet; grows mainly in hot climates in the Mediterranean and California; the least hardy citrus, it can produce up to 1,500 fruit annually; white flowers with delightful perfume. The oils vary according to climate, culture and soils.
Principal constituents: Limonene, citral, bergamotine limettine, diosmine, limotricine, pinene, geraniol.
History
History and folk use:
Originating in South-east Asia it was known to the Greeks and the Romans, though it was rare. The fruit was introduced into Europe in the Middle Ages. Lemon peel was used as a perfume for clothes and as a pesticide.
The Moorish occupation of Spain for eight centuries led to their introduction in that area. By 1698 lemons were becoming recognized for their therapeutic properties and they were especially sought after for their antiscurvy effects by the British navy.

Contraindications
Doesn’t keep well, so check date when purchasing.
Never use old oil on skin as it may cause a severe allergic response.
Do not use with chemotherapeutic treatment for cancer.
Avoid sunlight after application and use only low concentrations.
