Description
Lychee, (also litchi and leechee) the sweet, jellylike nut, fruit or berry of the sapindaceous tree Litchi chinensis, native to China. Lychees have a flavor similar to grapes. The fruit is round and the outer covering is red, leatherly with a number of conical bumps. The edible portion, inside, resembles skinned grapes, translucent white to pale cream in color. The flesh covers a smooth, brown seed. Lychee is a source of potassium.
