Description
The tangerine is a variety of the mandarin orange with a loose skinned peel. As with all citrus fruits, tangerines are rich in vitamin C, and contain nearly four times as much provitamin A carotenoids as oranges on an equal weight basis.
Available from late November through January.
Note: A good quality tangerine will be heavy for its size and be deep orange or almost red, depending on the particular variety. A puffy appearance and feel is normal. Avoid tangerines having soft, water-soaked areas or mold.
