Alizarin
Alizarin is a red dye found in the root of the madder. It will change from yellow to red as the acidity of the solution it is in decreases. Alizarin is used principally as an acidity indicator and a biological stain. It can be modified chemically to produce different color dyes (e.g., Alizarin orange).
