Arachidonic Acid
Arachidonic acid, an essential fatty acid found in the liver, brain, and other organs. It is the biosynthetic precursor of prostaglandins.
In experiments with mice, the deprivation of all fat intake caused scaly skin, kidney lesions, bloody urine, and early death. These conditions were cured by the administration of arachidonic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid. Arachidonic acid is used therapeutically as a nutrient.
