Male Reproductive Organs
The male reproductive organs include the prostate gland, testes, epididymis, urethra and penis.
The prostate gland is located inferior to the neck of the bladder. It is a small, chestnut-sized gland. The gland produces an alkaline fluid which is a component of seminal fluid.
The testes are the site of sperm and male sex hormone production. Sperm production requires a temperature lower than that of the main body. The testes are therefore located in a saclike fold of skin outside the main body.
The epididymis stores sperm and can be emptied in three to four ejaculations over 12 hours.
The male urethra is used both for the release of sperm and urine. It is located in the penis. The penis is composed of erectile tissue.
