Description
Lymphadenitis refers to swollen lymph glands (nodes), which usually indicates an infectious disease which has activated the immune system. It may also be referred to as lymphadenopathy.
Causes
The lymph nodes swell because of inflammation and/or proliferation of white blood cells within signaling a reaction to a minor infection, usually in childhood.
It may also be due to an allergic reaction, such as a bee sting.
More rarely it is linked with cancer e.g. metastasis, leukemia, lymphoma.
Signs & Symptoms
There are three sites most commonly affected by swelling: the neck, beneath the ears; the axilla (chest and armpit) and the groin. These are usually felt as tender, slightly warm lumps, just beneath the skin. Other nodes in the chest or abdomen will probably be swollen as well but lying deeper they are not palpable.

Dietary Considerations
Water melon can be detoxifying (mildly diuretic). Lemon juice may also be beneficial (simply add to water i.e. lemonade).
A high (vegetable!) protein diet is recommended e.g. brown rice, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains.
Potassium-rich foods may also be beneficial, notably bananas.

Treatment Schedule
Over-the-counter homeopathic remedies may be single strength (of fairly weak potency e.g. 6X ) or a blend of several weaker strengths (6X, 8X, 10X).
This may comprise a single remedy, or several remedies.
Doses are administered on a 3 times daily (tid), between meals, schedule and continued for 3 days.
Liquid preparations usually use 8-10 drops per dose.
Solid preparations are usually 2 or 3 pellets per dose.
Children use 1/2 dose i.e. 1 pellet.
If there is aggravation of the symptoms, stop taking the remedy and consult a homeopath.
