Vanadium Mineral
Vanadium is needed for normal growth.
This mineral plays a part in fertility.
Lipid metabolism requires vanadium to function correctly.
Deficiency Symptoms

Measurement Mcg (micrograms)
Requirements (RDA)
Since 10 mcg is lost daily through urine, at least this amount is needed as a replacement.

Safety
Can easily be toxic if taken in synthetic form.
There may be an interaction with chromium, so some authorities recommend not taking both minerals together! This would preclude multi-mineral formulas, if both were included but include a multi-mineral featuring one plus an isolated mineral supplement with the other.

Glucose metabolism
Organic vanadium compounds have been shown to correct the hyperglycemia and impaired hepatoxic glycolysis of diabetic rats more safely than vanadyl sulphate (VS). Oral administration of the three organic vanadium compounds for up to 3 months induced a faster and larger fall in glycemia than VS. Glucosuria and tolerance to a glucose load were improved accordingly. There was no marked toxicity observed on hepatic or renal function. However, diarrhea occurred in 50% of rats chronically treated with VS, but not in those receiving the organic compounds.
