Parkinson's Disease
L-tryptophan supplementation during levodopa therapy may prevent motor complications.
In a clinical trial, two patients with Parkinson's disease took L-tryptophan in addtion to levodopa, a Parkinson's disease drug. The women experienced dramatic improvement in their levodopa-induced "On-Off" condition after L-tryptophan supplementation. L-trpytophan may be used during levodopa therapy in preventing levodopa-induced motor complications.

Exercise Performance & Tryptophan
Exercise Performance
L-tryptophan may increase endurance and pain tolerance during strenuous exercise. According to this study, twelve men performed a workload up to 80% of their maximal oxygen uptake after receiving a placebo and L-tryptophan at two different intervals. L-tryptophan increase total exercise time by 49.4% compared to the placebo. A lower rate of perceived exertion by the tryptophan supplement group was observed although actual exertion by both placebo and experimental groups were similar.
