Antiinflammatory GI

Description:
There are inflammatory diseases involving the intestine, specifically, the ileum and/or the colon. These diseases are ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease, and are treated with different antiinflammatory medications.
Olsalazine (Dipentum) and Mesalamine (Asacol, Mesalamine, Pentasa and Rowasa) are leading examples, although sulfonamides like sulfasalazine are also useful.
Nutritional Considerations:
Nutritional supplements may be needed if there is prolonged diarrhea. Protein, vitamins and mineral supplementation may be beneficial.
Take tablet or capsule form of medication with 8oz. Of water. (Pronsky 1999)
Monitor Caloric intake (a tendency to become anorexic). (Pronsky 1999)
