A nonessential amino acid, L-Tyrosine is important to the structure of almost all proteins in the body. It is also starting material for several neurotransmitters. Because of this, L-Tyrosine has been looked at for the treatment of fatigue and dementia. Initial research has shown that it may also elevate mood and decrease the negative effects of physical and psychological stress.

We all face stress each day. Some of us are able to deal with it better than others. Wouldn’t it be nice to tip the scales in our favor? Tyrosine may do just that. Tyrosine is an important amino acid that is a precursor to a number of neurotransmitters related to our feeling of well-being. A deficiency of these neurotransmitters will result in depression and a reduced ability to cope with stress. Studies have indicated a marked increase in ability to deal with stress, as well as improved endurance to anxiety and stress under fatigue when supplementing with tyrosine. Studies have also shown that tyrosine supplementation results in increased performance while under stressful conditions. A recently discovered benefit of tyrosine is its ability to increase the effectiveness of 5-HTP as an antidepressant. Click here to find out more about 5-HTP. If you are one of the many that suffer from depression, fatigue or a low tolerance to stress, consider supplementing your diet with tyrosine. It makes sense.

Functions in the Body:
Tyrosine is a necessary amino acid in the production of a number of neurotransmitters including epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine as well as certain thyroid hormones such as thyroxin, which has been found to increase the metabolic rate and control growth rate. Tyrosine also appears to have a mild stimulatory effect on the central nervous system.
